Registering for AP Exams
Fall Registration for the AP exams is now closed. If you would like to purchase an exam, please see information below on the late payment window. A $50 late fee will be applied per exam.
Please note: Registration for an AP Exam is a two-step process. a test will not be ordered for you if you do not complete both steps.
Step 1: Register for exam through your College Board account.
You must have a College Board account to register. Many students already have an account. The same College Board account is used for the PSAT, SAT and AP. Please make sure to use your personal email address, not your school email, as you may want to access information after leaving high school.
Do NOT create a second account - this may prevent scores from being shared with correct colleges.
- Receive a JOIN CODE from your teacher. If you are taking the test exam only or are self-studying and are not enrolled in the class, please email the AP Coordinator for the exam only join code.
- Ensure your exam registration is showing on your College Board MyAP Classroom site for each exam you are planning to take. Please note: College Board defaults all join codes to "YES, ORDER EXAM." Your account may show that an exam is being ordered for you. Once the payment window is closed, this will change to "NO" if you did not make a payment. Please ensure you complete the payment process so a test can be ordered for you.
Students who are testing with accommodations should reach out to their school’s AP Coordinator for an ‘ATC’ join code. Students whose accommodation requests are approved by the College Board will take their tests at the LWSD Resource Center.
Step 2: Pay for your exam at your school.
- Payments can be made with cash, check or credit card with your school’s Bookkeeper. We will not be accepting online payments during the late window.
- The RHS bookkeeper is open in the mornings before school and during lunches. There is no opportunity to pay at the bookkeeper's window in person after school, so please plan accordingly.
- Students who qualify for financial assistance still need to check out at the bookkeeper's window or online. This receipt is your ticket to an exam being purchased. If you are unsure if you qualify, please connect with your counselor. Please also note: all exams will be charged a $50 late fee per test during the late payment window. This cannot be waived.
The fall registration date has closed. Late registration will be open starting February 17, 2026 and will go through March 6, 2026. Please be aware that payments for tests can only be accepted until the end of 2nd lunch on March 6th. Plan accordingly.
LWSD does not order exams for incomplete registrations. An incomplete registration is one that is missing either part: registering for the correct exam(s) or submitting payment. If either step is missing, an exam will not be ordered. LWSD is not responsible for errors made by students during the registration process.
Students who miss the October registration and payment window will have the opportunity to order and/or pay during the late registration window. This will incur a $50 late fee per exam. Please note the late fee applies to all students, whether or not you qualify for financial assistance, and cannot be waived or reduced.
AP Exam registration deadlines and fees
*Important Notes:
- Late order fees do not apply to AP single-semester courses offered in the second semester.
- Late fees ($50 per exam for exams ordered after October 20, 2025, 11:59 p.m.) apply to all students, including students who qualify for reduced fee exams.
- Students needing help with financial assistance should contact their school’s AP Coordinator. LWSD can help if you receive Free and Reduced Lunch support.
Students are strongly encouraged to register during the regular registration window to avoid incurring additional fees.
Confirming You are Registered for Your Exams
To verify if you registered for your AP exams, please follow the below steps:
- Have your student log in to their College Board account to make sure that every AP class is accounted for in AP Classroom (AP Central).
- If your student is self-studying for an exam, they still must be registered for an AP class in AP Classroom. A test cannot be ordered for them without this step.
- If the class is listed on your student’s College Board profile (My AP Classroom), log into payments.lwsd.org and verify there is receipt of payment for the AP exam(s).
- If class is missing, please make sure to pay for the exam(s) you want to take. Without a receipt, we cannot order a test.
- If you have receipt of payment, have your student verify payment was made for the correct AP exam(s).
- An example of a common mistake is paying for AP English Literature instead of AP English Language. Work with the bookkeeper before the deadline closes to ensure you pay for the correct exam.
- If you have seen the class on College Board, you have receipt of payment and your student has verified the correct test was paid for, please wait until after October 31st to check your College Board account for confirmation
- The AP Coordinator will be working to reconcile all payments and test purchases. If you check your students AP Classroom after November 14th and see that their test has been changed to reflect no test has been ordered, please reach out to the AP Coordinator via email ASAP. Thank you.
- Please note: All students are defaulted to "YES, PURCHASE EXAM" when a student uses a join code in AP Classroom. This will be changed to NO by October 31st if the steps above are not complete.
- After October 31st, you can check your AP Classroom homepage to ensure you are registered to take the exam. If a location and exam is listed on the tile for that specific test, you are registered. If no exam or no location is listed, you did not register. If you believe this is an error, please reach out to the AP Coordinator immediately.

Testing with accomodations
Students must contact their school’s SSD Coordinator for assistance in applying for accommodations to be used with College Board AP Exams.
College Board has shifted most AP tests to a digital format. Accommodations that are requested from College Board by students must be approved by College Board.
College Board requires time to properly set up the testing environment to reflect approved accommodations. Due to this setup process, once a student has signed up for accommodations, the College Board is unable to make last-minute changes or adjustments.
Students using accommodations will receive a separate join code for registration purposes.
Accommodations testing takes place at the LWSD Resource Center (Alternate Testing Cohort- ATC). LWSD Resource Center: 16250 NE 74th Street, Redmond, WA 98052.
Transportation to the Resource Center must be provided by the student.
AP exam dates
Lake Washington follows the College Board AP Exam Date calendar as published each year. Please refer to this website for dates and times of each AP exam.
