Helping families out – fundraiser helps wipe out meal debt for LWSD high school seniors

Meal Debt Campaign poster

The Equity team based out of Juanita High School had an idea. They wanted to help get rid of meal debt for all seniors at Lake Washington School District’s four comprehensive high schools. The fundraiser was supposed to run May 15-June 15, but only took about a week to raise enough money to reach their goal. In partnership with InvestED, the campaign sought to raise about $10,000 for seniors from Juanita (JHS), Lake Washington (LWHS), Eastlake (EHS) and Redmond (RHS) high schools. Donors looking to contribute could scan a QR code to take them to the InvestED page and they could donate to any or all of the schools. Jen Mueller’s organization Talk Sporty to Me covered the debts at EHS, LWHS and RHS. JHS benefitted from 26 different donors but got some help from the Albertsons Companies Foundation to cover the majority of the money needed there. Thank you to our community and partnering organizations who stepped up to help our LWSD families!
